"This book was written by an aerospace engineer who grew up in the Veneto region of Italy. The first part of the book is a collection of short stories, written in the first person from the perspective of a young child. It is a fascinating read, revealing how a child and her circle of friends attempt to navigate the complexities and contradictions of the adults in their lives. There is another aspect that is equally mesmerizing for the American reader. These beautifully written vignettes transport the reader to what life was like in Italy in the early 1980s. For those of us who admire Italian culture, the stories provide a unique window into what it was like to actually be there, at that time and in that place. In the English translation, the author provides frequent footnotes explaining historical events and cultural references with which an American reader might not be familiar. The second half of the book is a collection of three fictional stories. The first two deal with the powerful and often difficult emotions that arise when life enters the chapter of caring for aging parents, but they are presented in a way that keeps the plot moving through a hilarious narrative involving a “Dad Kennel.” The final and most detailed story gives the impression that it may have been inspired by a dream in which the author awakens in a parallel life. She finds herself in a different city, Naples, with a different husband and an entirely different career. The story follows her adventures as she tries to find her way back home to her “first” life in Milan. I really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it, especially to anyone with an interest in Italian culture and everyday life. This book will take you there."

"Il parco della Contessa mi ha rapita sin dalle prime pagine e l'ho letto tutto d'un fiato! La storia è semplice ma intensa e sempre dinamica. Storia di vite vere, di sentimenti profondi, di amore, amicizia, delusione, speranza e gratitudine. La storia di Giovanni è un viaggio nel cambiamento, nella ricerca di una identità e del proprio posto nel mondo. La narrazione è piena di dettagli, di descrizioni minuziose di persone, sentimenti, paesaggi, cose, colori e profumi. Leggere questo romanzo è come poter vedere i paesaggio, sentire il profumo dei fiori ed udire i suoni della natura ma soprattutto percepire i sentimenti profondi che accompagnano i personaggi. La prefazione mi ha commossa ... una figlia che porta a termine il libro che il papà aveva cominciato e quindi concludere l'ultima delle tre cose che lui riteneva fossero importanti nella vita, penso sia un gesto meraviglioso di cui andare orgogliosi.
